New York Times Summer Contest Workshop

Learn to write short, persuasive essays about important events. Yours could be published in the New York Times!

Ideal for international students who plan to apply to U.S. colleges. You'll learn writing skills for your Common Application personal statement, U of California, Texas, and other U.S. college essays.


Format

Three online, interactive small-group workshops. Each one contains an interactive activity/discussion, handout/references and short writing assignment.

Package includes 3 one-hour meetings and three entries to the contest.

  • What is a commentary/response essay? Types of persuasive writing and what they all contain. Contest rules and how to enter.

  • Strengthening your case with evidence and counterclaims.

  • What makes a well written personal essay? Conversational writing with flair.
